In case you have not heard, Miguel Cabrera is coming off a Triple Crown and AL MVP season in 2012. The slugger for the Tigers was able to get Detroit all the way to the World Series, proving that he is one of the best baseball players in the world. The question is, will he be the best fantasy baseball player in 2013?

There are many reasons to consider taking Cabrera with the top pick in 2013. For starters, he was the Triple Crown winner last year. That means that he was the best fantasy baseball hitter in the American League when it comes to home runs, batting average and total amount of RBI. That feat had not been pulled off in over 40 years, so it definitely grabbed some attention.

When compared to the other challengers for #1, Ryan Braun and Mike Trout are both a bit unknown. Braun has produced for a few seasons, but Cabrera has been doing it for a longer amount of time. In fact, many consider him to be the surest thing in baseball, since he does not put a lot of pressure on his body by running and diving for balls like the other two do.

There are some drawbacks for Cabrera though, and it could frustrate some owners. For starters, Cabrera rarely if ever runs these days. Those in need of stolen bases will have to get those elsewhere. Also, he can be frustrating at times if he goes on a cold spell. For the most part he has stayed out of trouble, but there are some people who will point to his drinking problem in the past as reason enough to not consider him the best fantasy baseball option because he is not reliable. That is a bit unfair though for a guy just coming off the season he had though, so Cabrera should go top 3 for sure.
